Toll North Pty Ltd has now plead guilty to two dangerous goods breaches in the Downing Centre Local Court last week. The freight transport company was fined with a total amount of $9,680.
The said freight transport company pleaded guilty for engaging itself to provide transportation for a consignment of 21,000 L of toluene diisocyanate which is listed as a dangerous good in the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG Code).
Toluene diisocyanate is a toxic chemical primarily used in the production of polyurenthane. When exposed at certain amounts, this chemical is a possible human carcinogen, can cause severe injury, or worse, death.
Another offence made by Toll North was that they subcontracted the transportation to a company that was not licenced to transport dangerous goods.
With the quick action of the Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA) under the supervision of the Director of Hazardous Incidents and Environmental Health Craig Lamberton, the truck transporting the toxic chemical was pulled over in Botany.
