The new rule by the NSW Environmental Protection Agency will apply to every person who owns, operates or uses tank trailers in the dangerous goods shipment and distribution of hazardous materials. This newest step for dangerous goods declaration is in response to the 2011 coronial recommendation that said that the dangerous goods vehicle like heavy tank trailers should be fitted with the technology.
The EPA Director of Hazardous Incidents and Environmental Health Craig Lamberton wrote a letter informing the industry about the change. This letter explains the requirement for all tank trailers greater than 4.5 tonnes and includes semi-trailers, B-double trailers and dog trailers.
Craig Lamberton wrote, “Stability control on dangerous goods vehicles is consistent with good industry practice both here and internationally.”
